Daniel Fazekas Presented “AI Is a Tool, Not a Strategy” at Japan IT Week 2026
At the Spring edition of Japan IT Week 2026, Daniel Fazekas, CEO of Scriptide, delivered a thought-provoking presentation titled “AI Is a Tool, Not a Strategy – How to Use It Effectively to Build Software.”
In his talk, he challenged the way we think about “AI” today. While the term has existed since the 1950s, in practice it now mostly refers to large language models (LLMs) such as ChatGPT, Claude, or Gemini. These systems don’t “think” or reason - they predict text based on patterns, using prompts and context provided by users.
The presentation highlighted how LLMs are already transforming software development. From code generation and planning to testing and migrations, AI can significantly accelerate workflows. However, these tools come with important limitations: they lack true logical reasoning, produce non-deterministic outputs, and depend heavily on the quality of input they receive.
This is where human expertise becomes critical. Skilled engineers must provide clear context, apply judgment, and maintain high standards in code quality, testing, and security. As Fazekas emphasized, developers are not being replaced - in fact, their role is becoming even more important as systems grow in complexity.
Looking ahead, AI is reshaping the industry: teams are becoming smaller but more capable, iteration cycles are faster, and decision-making carries more weight than ever. The most successful teams will be those who can combine strong technical skills with the effective use of AI tools.
The core message of the talk was simple but powerful: AI is like a hammer. It can help you build faster - or destroy faster. The difference lies in the people using it. Strategy does not come from the tool itself, but from those who wield it.
At Scriptide, this principle is at the core of how AI is applied: AI is a tool - people are the strategy.
